Maybe this is just a personal attack, or maybe its widespread but something became 20/20 today and it’s this: Satan Loves to distract and divide God’s people… using any means necessary. That is not so much a revelation to me; seeing this new attack that he has chosen to take is.
Yes, it’s another post about vaccines but this isn’t a do or don’t. You all know my stance on that but this is something way bigger. Yes, I support vaccines because the diseases they help prevent scare me. But you know what scares me even more? Seeing how Satan is causing division in the church, mostly through moms. Moms are wired to protect their children with every natural instinct that God has designed us to have. Some of us feel vaccines are protecting our children; others feel vaccines are not the best choice for our children and harmful. Either way, the most harmful thing for our children is to have division in our community over non-Biblical based issues.
It scares me to see how Satan is distracting me from the greatest disease of all (the one that sends every single one of us to Hell) and that is SIN. He has me caught up in little battles when there is a bigger war going on and it is a war for lost souls. Can I be as passionate about helping the lost find Jesus as I am about wanting to protect children from earthly diseases? My greatest desire in all my life is for my loved ones to have a relationship with God, and today I realized there is so much more that I can be doing to consciously put effort towards that desire. I want others to know the love of Christ more than I want them to be vaccinated. I want the church to be unified; a body.
In the beginning, Satan started by breaking homes and marriages. That began in the Garden of Eden as one of the primary curses. That brokenness has fully crept into lives of those who are part of the family of God and we all can see the effects it has had on the entire human race, especially in America. Do the broken have a place inside our church walls?
Then Satan has caused division in the church body over bringing acceptance or rejection of those with different lifestyle choices. Every person, no matter what walk of life, should feel welcomed into the house of God. See the Bible. Jesus came to heal the sick, not the saved.
He continues to cause division over what “worship” is best – guitar vs no drums, old hymns vs new anthems, etc. If you can’t worship as a body and focus on using your lips to praise the Almighty with your whole heart, that’s causing division.
Now to my new point: Vaxxers vs. non-vaxxers. Does this decision, one way or another, mean that we as moms cannot worship or fellowship without harsh underlying or maybe outspoken feelings anymore? Are we so caught up in who’s right and who’s wrong that we are not even seeing what Satan is doing here? I see truth to both sides, just as I see rights and wrongs in being a Republican or a Democrat. There is no perfection outside of Christ. There is no right decision outside of Christ.
Satan is continually trying to pull apart all that is Holy. It disgusts him and makes him angry because like-mindedness in the church is one of the most powerful weapons against his schemes. God’s people are so under attack by an evil army and most of the time we are oblivious. It may seem like something small but I am seeing how this is interfering with True Worship.
I urge you, like myself, to not get so caught up in the small stuff that you miss out on the largest task we have been given. Be careful not to cast judgement or condemnation on your fellow sisters in Christ, just because they choose a different way to raise their children. If that means less play dates during flu season because some vaccinate and others don’t, oh well. Get together again in the summer. We are to love one another and build each other up. Love others in the body of Christ, even if you don’t agree with every choice they make. And certainly love others outside the body as well. Live in a way that draws others to your community.
If the church continually breaks down over issues outside of the Bible, then we can all throw in the towel for the future of our children and grandchildren. They are going to grow up in a country full of darkness and not have anyone to lean on in times of need or battle.
I know this isn’t going to do much in the grand scheme of things. Yes, I am still going to speak up on the importance of vaccines. And no, that does not mean that I support abortions. I just want to not let it interfere with my worship and larger task of seeking lost souls and sharing the love of Christ. I am working on being more bold and in doing so have made myself a target for the devil. I am a pediatrician and vaccines are so important to me and in my line of work. That same work that is my mission field. I get to interact with hundreds of families every month and show them the JOY I have that only comes from knowing Jesus as my Lord. All of this controversy over vaccines, I feel, has been placed in my life as a distraction from the bigger, more eternal and important battle and that is to lead others to repentance and salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Are there any distractions that may be interfering with your worship? Don’t give Satan that gratification. Find the source and deal with it.
If you chose to speak your mind, do so with kindness and know that you can’t change everyone’s mind to believe the same things you believe. God made us all individuals and its beautiful that way. Don’t let those who think differently than you become a distraction from the greater truth:
we are all sinners in need of a Savior and our words and actions can either point others to Christ or become a roadblock.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
